Diabetes mellitus is a common disease through out the world and Malaysia is one of the victim and it is estimated to increase by 2.48 millions diabetics by 2030. Plants and plant products has played an important role in the treatment of diabetes as early as 1550 B.C. Moreover, during the past few years some of the new diabetic drugs isolated from plants have shown hypoglycemic activity with more efficacy than oral diabetic agents commonly used in clinical therapy. This review compiles an overview of certain Malaysian antidiabetic plants with their specific mode of action and phytoconstituents which have been widely reported in the literature.
